[from the PDInquirer] This July, Julius Babao is mixing all the elements of passion, art, friendship and investments into a palette of noble enterprise.He has parlayed his connections into donating paintings for a fundraising auction where all proceeds will go into building an entire village for Gawad Kalinga in Bagong Silang, Caloocan. To date, close to 100 artists have signed up and he's still getting calls from artists who wish to join the undertaking. The auction will be held on July 20 at Pintô Art Gallery, Antipolo. After the houses are built, Babao plans to invite all the involved artists to paint murals on the façades of the house to inject public art into the community. National Artist for Literature F. Sionil Jose will share his thoughts with Howie Severino in a forum titled "From Page to Stage: The Novelist in Front of the Footlights" on July 5. Staged readings of six other "virgin" plays will also be presented every night from June 25 to 29. On July 3, there will be a reading of selected excerpts from Ma-Yi Theater Company's anthology Savage Stage, most of which have been performed by the company. The Labfest Blogfest offers active bloggers to win prizes. All they have to do is attend the first weekend performances and write a web blog or online journal within 48 hours after watching the program they saw. Winners will be chosen for each set of Labfest plays and receive gift certificates and other merchandise. In the Virgin Labfest Lab, high-school students who are interested in theater and playwriting will be mentored throughout the festival by writer-director Njel de Mesa, after which the students are expected to write short plays to be presented in a staged reading on the last day of the Festival.

Several characters speak in front of his coffin, before he is laid to rest: Senator Reyes, Pepe's Aunt Bettina, his college professor-mentor Badong Hortenso, his parish priest friend Father Jess, Colonel White Sidewall, and an old woman Tia Nena who served in the parish where Pepe once stayed. They have proof that the deceased Lin Shunfu has converted to Islam. His official I.D. bears the name of a Muslim. This is a retelling of the Manobo version of the sky maiden who marries a mortal lad. Terengati, the protagonist whose name means bird hunter, does exactly that - he hunts birds for a living. Like other folktales, this story is rich in fantasy and has a touch of romance. Terengati's search for his wife is as an adventure that may be hard to believe but its resolution is realistic and is drawn from actual family experience.

Festival of Raw Artists
forArtists is a showcase of original, raw and innovative works of playwrights and scriptwriters. The festival will be a collaboration of theatre artists and aims to provide them with the opportunity to develop and exhibit their material on the REP stage.
This year Friends of Repertory or simply F.O.R was re-launched as a partner of Repertory Philippines (REP), comprised of theater performers and aficionados from various backgrounds and orientations. The group holds together for the love of REP and the long-term goal of instilling within the Filipino a key appreciation of theater and the performing arts.
With the aim of raising theater awareness and bringing the experience of theater to a broader audience, F.O.R.'s forArtists will highlight Repertory Philippines' thrust in building a theater industry that can provide actors, directors, designers, choreographers, musicians, dancers, and all those who would like to work in theater the opportunity to do so.
forArtists will continue F.O.R.'s mission to open up avenues in which all theater and non-theater-oriented members of the community may interact and collectively recognize the importance of theatre in society today.

Material must showcase fresh, raw, and innovative ideas and storylines.

No less than 30 minutes in length.

The materials chosen will be featured and staged at OnStage Greenbelt 1 as part of forArtists in October 2008.
Leading up to the showcase of the playwright/author's work, the play will undergo intense workshops, from script revision to final staging, by notable Repertory Philippines Directors and veteran theatre artists (Baby Barredo, Joy Virata, Robbie Guevara, Chari Arespacochaga) at key points in the rehearsal process. This will give the directors of the chosen shows a chance to polish and flesh out their staging while
providing the playwright/author time to perfect their material come stage time.
Each playwright/author whose work is chosen will be given 10,000 php to use for the staging of their work. They will be in charge of choosing the director, actors, crew, and whomever they wish to be part of their artistic and production team.
They may also hold auditions or invite theatre artists from Repertory Philippines or any professional and amateur theatre companies.
Participants will be able to earn money through ticket selling and soliciting sponsorships for the said event.

Theatre artists, critics and aficionados will be invited to watch and review the shows featured in F.O.R.'s forArtists.
During the rehearsal process, FOR will schedule consultation and preview dates in which REP directors and theatre veterans will be able to watch and critique the raw material (at least three times a month) and provide the playwright/author/director insights in staging to help polish the shows in preparation for the event gala.
The CCP Virgin Labfest is a great opportunity for budding playwrights, directors and actors to hone their skills with like-minded peers and experienced professionals. I'm glad that this year, the organizers have decided to open the opportunity to secondary students. It's never too young to get the exposure and creative criticism needed to perfect one's art. The Virgin Labfest, an annual festival of unstaged, untried, untested works by playwrights, directors and actors launches its fourth season on June 25. Eighteen new works shall be showcased in staged readings, a booklaunch and audience talk back sessions.
As part of its objective to train young writers and to discover new talents and works, the Virgin Labfest 4 will have as a new component called the LABFEST LAB! In this program, secondary school students who are interested in theater and playwriting will be mentored throughout the festival by a member of the Writer's Bloc. As part of their training, they will be given complimentary tickets to all the Labfest performances and will have workshops sessions on playwriting with noted Director and Playwright Njel de Mesa. At the end of the period, a reading of their works will be featured as a separate showcase.
Each participant will be at the CCP from June 25 to 29, 2008. On Saturday, July 5, a workshop session will be held to critique their works. At this session, members of the Writers Bloc will join the students for further mentoring. The Labfest Lab will culminate in a staged reading of their works on Sunday, July 6, 2008 at the CCP Tanghalang Aurelio Tolentino (Little Theater).
The CCP Dramatic Arts Division would like to invite members of drama group and creative writing organizations, preferably in the 3rd and 4th year to be part of this program. In order to qualify for the ten available slots, they should write a one page essay on "Why I Want to be Part of the Labfest Lab." This may be written in either Filipino or English.
